Painting with Music

Oh my gosh. Where do I start?
I’ll start here!

One of my clients came in and showed me her favorite artist, and I was blown away by something really interesting…her favorite artist was an Impressionist painter – a beautiful painter with lots of hesitant strokes.

She as a singer has a beautiful voice, yet so many hesitant strokes. As we worked together that day, we discovered that when she looked at different paintings, and imbued her voice with their qualities – the strokes that were fast, or confident, or rushed, her voice changed along with them.
The human mind is fascinating when it delves into the arts. The mind is always searching for commonalities, and our mindset develops us into the singer, the musician we are at this day.

My favorite artist is Leonardo daVinci, because of the vision, the creativity that he saw inherent in every piece of nature. His books are always on my table, and his statue lurks in the corner, reminding me to think, to build, to grow.
Leonardo is my inspiration, and yet, so is Quentin Blake. He makes expression so real! And so fun! I love how you can use just a few strokes and make a fully expressive painting. Reading Roald Dahl’s works alongside his art always makes for a happy evening by the fireside.

Years ago, I was blessed to have a friend show me Abarat, by Clive Barker. When we discover just how much illustration comes through trance, experimentation and dreams, it is just absolutely fascinating.

Each artist illustrates a portion of me, and it is those portions that my mind brings into the voice. The voice is the gateway to the soul at least as much as the eye is. When we combine them, and build music in our heart, and make our art reflect our heart’s rhythm, beauty beautifies
Keep on singing,
